In 1936 the Soviets made a propaganda film "Circus".
In it the heroine sang the "Song of the Homeland," better known as
"Shiroka strana moya rodnaya " or in short "Shiroka".
The actress was the top Soviet actress Orlova and the song writer was
Dunayevsky ( Donauer) who together with Lebedev (lirycs) wrote almost
all top Soviet hits.
The song was so catching and popular that at a time it was an unofficial
soviet anthem.
Here it is, original version:

and the war propaganda release:

The words are simple and after singing it many times
you also started believing what you sang:
" Spacious is my native land,
It has many woods ,fields and rivers,
I dont know any other land,
Where a man can breath so freely ."
This we sang almost daily marching the streets.
We were pioneers.
