Women might be termed "Girls" in the US, possibly even in Britain.
But as far as I know, not in Ukrainian, Hebrew, German, Romanian, Italian,
French or Yiddish, Latin or Chinese.
I may be vain and this photograph and its title is "eine grosse Gemeinheit".
No one in Czernowitz would have referred to these women as "Maedel", "Fate"
or "Dyevushkas".
