Dear All
There is no doubt that the Romanians carry the whole guilt of the holocaust
of the Bucovinian and Bessarabian Jews - Period!!!. The stories of the mass
graves in Transnistria are of two kind - Most of the mass graves belong to
what Father Dubois named as "Holocaust by bullets". The killings of the
local Jews were done by the "Einsatz Gruppen" and local collaborators right
after the "Wehrmacht" conquered Transnistria. After that Hitler gave
Transnistria to his Romanian allies and they started the deportation of the
Jews of Bucovina and Bessarabia to Transnistria .On some of the deportation
sites the rate of death was so high that the survivors had no ability to
perform a proper burial and buried the dead in mass graves. Just to clear up
facts.

Subject: RE: [Cz-L]Re: Excavation of Mass Grave in Close Vicinity to
Moghilev-Podolsk
Dear Mr. Schneider,
Although it would be much easier for me, to write in German to you, I'm
considering your questions being so significant, that I prefer to make an
additional effort giving my answer in English.
The excavations are indeed part of historic and as well a forensic
investigation of war crimes perpetrated by the Romanian Army. They were
initiated by Valeriy Voitovich, the history teacher of Moghilev-Podolsk.
Longstanding researches and a testimony of a villigar from Solnechny leaded
to the assumed location (see
http://hauster.blogspot.com/2010/05/die-stadt-mohyliv-podilskyi-das-ghetto.html)
of the mass grave. The villager, in 1941/42 about 10 years old, reported on
mass executions by shooting, which lasted a whole day long.
The excavations were organized and financed by the municipality of
Moghilev-Podolsk. Vladimir Kolchanov, my contact and the local Englich
teacher, wrote as follows: "Even the mayor of the town took part in it with
the spade."
OFF RECORDS: Keeping in mind the tensed relationship between Ukrainia and
Romania, the accusation of the Romanian side will not be treated very
restrained by the Ukrainian side, but that's doesn't affect the objective
historiography.
The Jewish Community of Moghilev-Podolsk, led by Leonid Brechman, is - as
far as I know - deeply involved in the research and excavation process, but
doesn't have human and financial resources to complete the works.
I have no idea at all regarding the disposal of the exhumed bodies, but rely
on the local Jewish Community that they will find a reverent solution.
So, dear Alfred, I hope you'll find the above answers to your questions
being useful to you and other members of our group as well. Let me add,
that, as some of my relatives perished in Transnistria too, I believe that's
of value to perpetuate the memory of this tormented people. In this respect
I do admire the engagement of Patrick Debois and I'm looking forward to
learning his feedback, based on the information transferred by Sylvie and/or
you.
Best wihes for now and have a nice Sunday!
