(1) My daughter-in-law's grandfather and granduncle Prostaks tried
unsuccessfully to emigrate to the United States through Montreal, Canada
circa 1904 - 1909 from Borowetz. In August 1914 (!!!) her grandfather
finally came successfully to New York City (leaving his wife and son in
Borowetz - they came in 1921 after the war from Tarnow Poland). A second
granduncle came successfully (earlier) to Philadelphia in 1914.
Question: Were there any out of ordinary problems in Northern Bukovina circa
1900 - 1910?
Question: They traveled to Montreal on a Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR)
steamship from Antwerp. The CPR had its own Department of Colonization and
Immigration that promoted and assisted emigration to Canada from Europe.
Over 150,000 Ukrainians used the service. Could this have been an influence?
(2) Is there a good book or website that specifically discusses the WW1
situation circa 1914 - 1919 in Northern Bukovina that I can read?
Many thanks,
Stephen Denker

Families I am looking for are PROSTAK from Borowetz (Borivtsi-Kyseliv); and
PREISER and POPIK from Zablotow.
