Greetings Czernowitzers...
For those who have recently joined the list, our website is at:
http://czernowitz.ehpes.com
Some new materials have just been posted:
1. I know you've all been wondering what Czernowitz looked like in 1845,
right? Well, Edgar Hauster, forever digging for new stuff found this
1845 German book: Die Bukowina im Königreiche Galizien. Mit sechs
Lithographien nach original Zeichnungen von J. Schubirss (1845). The
entire book (69 pages) is available in pdf format
at:http://www.archive.org/details/diebukowinaimk00benduoft
It's in old Gothic script. Edgar has taken screenshots of four of the
lithographs and I have posted them at:
http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/tmp/1845/ (click on the filenames). These
will eventually reside in the 'Czernowitz Postcards' section in the yet
to be released Album 9. If you want the original high resolution photos
of the litho's, or if you want the pdf of the book, just email me.
2. Any Matar recalls for us her first-hand story of the Russian
Occupation of Czernowitz (1940 -- Anny was 14 at the time). It's in the
'Stories, Histories & Trip Reports' secion (Item 34). Or if you're
feeling lazy, take the direct link:

Highly recommended!
3. The Wiener Library in London is one of the world's leading and most
extensive archives on the Holcaust and the Nazi era. There's information
and a video about the library at:
http://www.wienerlibrary.co.uk/aboutus.aspx
List member Harry Jarvis has given a good deal of his materials to this
library and has provided us with an 'index' of his contributions. It's
at: http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/stories/jarvis/img047.pdf
There is no on-line access to the library's collections, you have to be
there in person. The video explains this. Harry's index lives in the
'Stories, Histories..' section (Item 32a).
4. Another Czernowitz Maccabi soccer team picture (1920's) has been
posted. This one from Yossi Eshet (Jerry Wolf) along with a nice bit of
history about his soccer playing father Oscar. This photo is in the 'Pre
1945 Czernowitz Photographs' section --> 'Czernowitz/Bukovina Photos
from List Members'. It's photo 81/81 (at the moment the last one). Or,
the direct link:

After you're done reading the caption, Click on the photo to enlarge.
I hope all the links work for you. if not, let me know.
Best,
jerome
