[Cz-L] Language, words

  I remember Czernowitzer making jokes about "bitte platzen Sie", it was
never meant seriously.

A remarkable thing happened to my husband last weekend. He was touring
with an orchestra in the Oberpfalz, a region North of the
city of Regensburg. In a small town he read in a restaurant the word
"Dotsch" on the menu, and found out that it meant potato pancake - is
this the root of Toci - Tocherl, could this come from middle -high
German? I could not find the word in my German-German Duden dictionary.
Google gives the recipes - grated fresh potatoes, egg...etc., the basis
is grated potatoes and a Pfalz speciality. It rings a bell!
We have lived in Germany for quite a long time and never came across
this word, it's evidently a local dish.

  Thank you Hardy for the Peschl "dictionary", we have a photocopy too,
unfortunately we lent the book to somebody and never got it back.
Most of the words are so familiar, although we have not looked at it for
many years, somehow it got lost among other Cz. literature.
