The Hernia belt ( Kilebendl ,that is).
Moishe was in need of a Kilebendl.
His hernia , now two years old , was troublesome.
This meant that he should operate ,without delay.
But an operation ,as any operation , was risky and costly
and thus out of the question..
So the most suitable solution would be a Kilebendel .
But these cost money , and Moishe had no extra cash available.
In the old clothes budkes you could find used belts ,but who
would take a used belt if you dont know the original user.
Suddenly Moishe had an idea : Last week , Mendel from first
floor died away completely. He had once heard Mendel complaining
about
his Kile . He probably used a Kilebendel !
No, he must have had.. you know what.
He would ask his widow for the belt , Mendel was about his build
so it would fit him. Kilebendel could also be adjusted if needed.
Without losing time , Moishe went to Mendels flat and knocked
and without delay went in.
The widow was sitting Shive and Moishe mumbled something
for condolences but soon came to the point :" Excuse my asking this
but your deceased , may he rest in peace , had a Kile ?"
" Yes " the widow said.
"And he used a Kilebendel didnt he ?" Moishe asked.
" Yes , for years ,he did."
" Now , you as have no use for this , I have a needy
customer for it , a mitzwa !"
" Yes, why not ",the widow said, " they brought his belongings
yesterday from the hospital . Let us see ."
Somebody opened the bundle in the corner ,
but there was no belt .
" They probably took him to the Hevre Kedishe with the belt
on "somebody suggested.
The Tehara women must have taken it off
and thrown it away , or they buried him with the belt ,
such a waste ".
Moishe let out a sigh from the bottom of his soul.
Tomorrow he will think what to do.
