Re: Whipped Cream -
The various references to it in relation to wild strawberries left me confused. But when I read Ruth's mention of Schlag-Oberst, I pointed to my monitor excitedly and called out, "That's it!" That's what we called it. It reminded me of seeing a documentary piece, possibly on CBS 60 Minutes, on Vienna eating habits where they would have fruit or cake and order "Mit Schlag!"
And what wonderful memories Hardy's picture of the berries brought back. The last time I tasted some wild strawberries was in 1948 in Canada's Muskoka vacation lands. Some children had been picking them in the woods. Is there anywhere left in the world where they are picked and brought to market? Recalling their wonderful taste is incentive enough to move out to live in the wilds.
