My grandfather, Marcus Zacharias's family originally came from Storozhinets
where he was born in 1870. He and married my grandmother Mania (Miriam)
Fenster in Czernowitz around 1910. So obviously there was travel between the
two cities. According to my mother, Czernowitz was considered the
"Grossstadt" in comparison to the surrounding smaller towns, and a centre of
culture, industry and trade. I assume these 3 activities brought in visitors
and immigrants. I am not sure what existed in Storozhinets at the time.
