I heard a similar story from my father's cousin also called Arthur, about
the children train.
they all lived in Ostia at that time trying to survive the hard conditions
and hunger.
one day a rumor broke that such a children train exists.
Arthur and his friend Sasha who were about 15-16 decided they want to go to
the train.
they started walking from Ostia to Balta where the train was supposed to
stop.
they walked for a few days, they walked amongst the German troops that were
retreating at that time and didn't try to hide out, they decided to walk
among the convoy as if they were local boys.
they eventually got to Balta and discovered that the train has left a few
days earlier and were told that the border closed and no more trains will b=
e
going.
they then returned to Ostia where they spent the rest of time till going
back to home village and coming to Israel.
I am not sure this is the same train or not but it looks similar in many
ways.
thanks
Yossi
