1. Also from me, a big thank you Arthur for telling us your miraculous
escapes. It is so, during the most terrible catastrophes, there are
always some people who are lucky enough to survive. But twice, as it
happened to you, is almost incredible. Very moving, thinking of the many
children's destiny, and their parents when they found out, which they
probably did quite soon. Again, the question arises: how could human
beings do this to children?
2. Florence, your article is a very good and concise rendering of
Celan's most important work and the events in his life.
3. Cecina is a place in Italy , in the Toscana, same spelling. I wonder
if the Austrians, who knew Italy quite well, gave it the name?
4. Bernard Reder - we have 3 woodcuts by Reder, all hanging on our walls.
In the cemetery in Czernowitz my father's parents and grandparents'
grave was made by Reder, the name is on the plate. Also, my mother
remembers passing the Reder atelier quite often, it was in the
Russischegasse, not far from the St. Nikolausgasse (now Sadovsky), where
she lived.
