And yet more evidence! If you put "archbishop hacman of czernowitz" into
Google,then the 3rd item is called "stambrook.032.idd" and if you click on
that you will find "The Golden Age of the Jews of Bukovina 1880-1914" by
Fred Stambrook from the Dept. Of History,Univ of Manitoba. A very well-worth
bit of reading...and it describes a large amount if co-operation between the
Jewish rabbis and the Christian religious leaders of various denominations.
Esp.see page 13!! To a large extent it seems there were more problems
between the orthodox Jews and the more liberal ones than between the Jews
and the Christians. As usual,Czernowitz was special and different!!
