I only wish my mother was still alive so I could learn how she would
understand this debate. She spoke so generously about the German people
who were involved in putting on a play related to Czernowitz's Selma
Meerbaum Eisinger, as well as about the journalists and spectators that
she spoke to there. She was able to do this after most of a long life
committed to never forgetting the atrocities of the Germans and the
other anti-Semites that collaborated with them . . . I remember my
father speaking fondly of a non-Jewish neighbor that reached out to
help him during The War. At the same time he was bitterly hateful of
the way he and his relatives were victimized during the War. Maybe we
can all come to assign our bitterness to those who have earned it, and
to those who are not tainted by anti-Semitism, learn to appreciate
their humanity.

I fully agree with Hardy. Mimi, you are exaggerating. I personally
also
know the Ukrainians and do not agree with the implications of your
enthusiasm. There still is a great deal of anti-Semitism in Cz. and God
knows how many generations it will take until they'll calm down. I
think
that this topic should be considered as exhausted and let's stop it now.
