FREISTADT CZERNOWITZ.

It is now the 10 year jubilee of the founding of the Free City of
Czernowitz.

During this period the city changed it's face completely.

The Old Town was declared a World Heritage Site and was completely

rebuilt to the 1938 state.

The Old Town was also declared a pedestrian zone and only Fiakers are

permitted- as tourist attractions.

The newly opened underground crosses the City in 2 main lines:

Residenz and Prut having stations at the Ringplatz where a new underground

shopping center was built.

The Euro is the official currency (since the City joined the EC in
2010).

The official languages are: German , Ukrainean and Romanian.

All Austrian street names are reinstated.

The old Temple was rebuilt to its past glory.

20 new hotels of world fame were built and 500 Zimmers are at the disposal

of the multitude of tourist who storm the city endlessly.

All border controls are abolished .

New four lane highways join the City with its neighbors.

The newly built Paul Celan International airport can hardly handle the
incoming

traffic - most of it charters. From there the tourists are shuttled to their
hotels

on the six-lane Traian Popovici Expressway , the new circular road where
most

new hotels are located.

All street bazaars have been closed.

The old Cheremosh Hotel was rebuilt into a giant ultra modern duty-free
department

store.

It all started in 2006 when Yankel Rabinovitch ,a born Czernowitzer

came back from an old-timer reunion ,held in the city , and during a
sleepless

night came up with an idea..

In 2009 the Free City Council declared him Ruler and Monarch for life
and granted him the title:

YANKEL THE FIRST OF CZERNOWITZ AND SADAGORA.

Yankel took his sceptre and orb , put on his velvet robe - had another
critical look

at the pidgeons sitting on his statue in the middle of the Ringplatz and
assumed

his throne in the newly built palace , on the bombed out north side of the
square..

Then it was morning and he woke up.

There is a way to answer this question more definitively. We can all
move back to Czernowitz and see, in several years, whether the list has
remained useful and well used . . .
