Dear all,
I have a photograph of my grandmother's family - the Pickers - with the
young men in army uniforms. From the stories you are telling, it must be
after the draft of 1914, but I had always assumed that they were in Vienna
by then.
I have no relatives who can answer my questions but I do have one story
which adds to the current thread: my grandmother told my father that she
walked barefoot, dressed as a farm girl, to find potatoes. The family was
running ot of food and she said that many people were struggling. I had
always thought that this was in the 1920s but from the current discussion, I
now think it may have been earlier.
Kind regards,
Shula Klinger
