Fellow Cz-L Members,

In 2004, during a visit to the Central Postoffice in Duesseldorf, Germany,
I
discovered that the Deutsche Post had just issued a commemorative stamp on
the occasion of Joseph Schmidt's one hundredth birthday. I purchased
several
stamps and yesterday, in the course of cleaning out a drawer with
miscellaneous papers, I discovered a block of six Joseph Schmidt stamps.
The
0.55 Euro stamps portray Joseph Schmidt in a classical singer posture, in
the background are the title and a few bars of the most famous of his
songs - Ein Lied geht um die Welt.

Not being a stamp collector and wishing that this memorabilium remain with
a
fellow Czernowitzer or his descendant, while also serving a worthy cause,
I
offer this block of stamps in a "blind auction", starting with $100. All
the
proceeds will be for the benefit of the Restoration of the Jewish Cemetery
in Czernowitz (CJCRO), where my grandfather, uncles and aunts, are
buried.
Send your bid by e-mail to asfred_at_comcast.net indicating whether your name
may be published in Cz-L, should you be the winner. The auction closes on
December 1st, the Eve of Hanukkah.
