What I'm going to tell is hearsay but I have heard it often enough. Some of
the names (Toni Meerbaum, Heini Stup, etc) were mentioned in family talks and
I can tell that at least part of this group did not belong to the Communist
Party but to 'Hashomer Hatzaiyr or "Dror" Zionist youth movements. When the
Soviets entered in 1940 they were hunted down with the help of their
"friends" from the Communist Party and those that did not escape were
deported to Siberia where some of them perished.

Subject: [Cz-L] Teenager Communists and the Torture!?
Hardy, Peter, Berti, Harry, Abraham, Anny, Irene, Silviu...
Thank you first of all for your outstanding
comments on my posting. Peter, as you assumed,
our "Czernowitzers" are not surprised at all by
the persecution of the so-called "communists".
Anny, nor me, as I am aware of the following
course of history. But nevertheless, let's keep
in mind, that we are talking of teenagers, pupils
and students mainly. However their "convictions
were 'pure'" beyond any doubt and therefore I'm
much more outraged than surprised.
Let me now add some facts, figures and names. The
Czernowitz prison at that time was dimensioned -
including the daily rations - for 200 prisoners,
but in fact 400 people were kept imprisoned, 100
[!] of them being considered as "communists". So,
there was not "only" humiliation, violence and
torture, in addition the prisoners were beset by
hunger. These brave "Czernowitz Teenager
Communists" stand for a good cause. I've
excerpted their names and the names of their
lawyers from the articles in "Der Tag"
(http://czernowitzdaily.blogspot.com/) between
March and November 1932 as follows:
