I vaguely remember a Delikatessen and sandwich bar in the Karolinengasse, I
always thought that Gabe was there.
Could it be that I am wrong?
My mother used to buy our "Jause belegte Broetchen" there, am I
hallucinating?

Subject: [Cz-L] Shopwindow Competition in Czernowitz!

Czernowitzers...

Christmas is almost here and the Czernowitz newspaper "Der Tag - The Day"
changes into an advertising journal, normally of no interest, but in
retrospect to the year 1932, at the height of the Great Depression, quite
thrilling. "Today" [i.e. 15.12.1932] "Der Tag - The Day"
[http://czernowitzdaily.blogspot.com/] is starting a "Shopwindow Competition
in Czernowitz", releasing a series of articles for the next four days:

15.12.1932 [p. 3]
Department Store Sekler - Ringplatz - A tableau of modern shopwindow
culture: Sekler!
Department Store M. Gelband - Hauptstraße - The shopwindow M. Gelband - a
painting!
Fashion House Trebitsch & Sons, Vienna - Hauptstraße - Pulsation of time!
Home Decor Store Marek Fisch - Rathausstraße - Ceramic Masterpieces!

16.12.1932 [p. 3]
Knitwear Store Hermann Seidler - Herrengasse - Hermann Seidler on
Kärntnerstraße [Vienna]!
Stationary Shop Leo Ungar - Herrengasse - Leo Ungar and the modern
stationary shop!
"Centrala" [Center] S. Goldstein - Rathausstraße - Stationary shop on
Rathausstraße!
Knitwear Store "Hercules" - Hauptstraße - The branch store on Hauptstraße!
"Izvorul Hainelor" [The Source for Clothing] - The source for Equity and
Quality!

17.12.1932 [p. 4]
Furniture Store Frendel - Herrengasse - The miracle of home decor
cultivation!
Fashion House "Zur Französin" [The French Girl] - Herrengasse - We switch
over to equity!
Knitwear Store "Hercules" - Herrengasse - For the third time: "Hercules"!
Jewelery Shop Sigmund Zelter - Rathausstraße - Make the most beautiful
present - give jewelry!
Fabrics Hlebnikian & Vartparonian Bros. - Fabrics, fabrics, nothing but
fabrics!

18.12.1932 [p. 8 + 9]
Delicatessen David Gabe - Herrengasse - An El Dorado for fine food!
Fashion House Wi-Ko - Herrengasse - The haute couture fashion house!
Candy Store "Royal" - Herrengasse - Bonbonnerie "Royal"!
"Bazar Amarican" - Daciaplatz - A tenor and the "American Bazar"!
Schwarz Supermarket - Tempelgasse - The "Schwarz Supermarket"!
Department Store Sekler - Ringplatz - A new surprise!
Department Store Schmiedt & Fontin!
Goldschimdt, Fenster, Derman and Carp - Landhausgasse - Retailer for Wilh.
Scherg & Cie., Brasov!

No matter whether this series of articles influenced anybody, euphoric and
exaggerated as they were, it's really fun!

Enjoy the "Window Shopping in Czernowitz"!
