Yes, we learned at school.
Sufficient for understanding songs like this.
Insufficient for fluent talk or literature.
Knowing French in pre-war Rumania was a status.
All nobility and affluent people spoke French.
They did not adopt the German language of Rumanian
Royalty.
French was the language of culture adopted by all the
East of Europe . Until today many Rumanian speak French ,
which miraculously outlived Ceaucescu.
