Well, *I'm* the one who is embarrassed (and will need to correct my
entry :} ) No fault of Jerome's except for accepting the image I sent
(in my overenthusiasm)
I was half-afraid it was not the right place (thus left the name as it
was) because I wasn't sure I could get the geography to work out, but I
had gone over the accounts (in the sources and languages that were
accessible to me) several times: it was clear that there were movements
through Slovakia in that campaign. On the one hand, it did seem possible
that our Czernowitz was involved. On the other, as Hardy and Iosif say,
the orientation of the rivers seemed wrong (but early historical
maps/scenes of that type were not always topographically accurate.
Oh, well.
At least I can promise that my maps of Bukovina and Galicia show what we
think they show. :}
Thanks for the assistance and correction,
Jim
