I am wondering whether instead of "Chana (Annie) (from Babin)
Horovits-Zilberman" you intended to specify Edith Horowitz-Silbermann, who,
after the WWII and upon leaving Czernowitz, moved with her parents to
Bucharest, joined the well-known Jacob Mansdorf Yiddish theater group and
became an excellent performer for a couple of years, after which she moved
to Wien and subsequently to Düsseldorf.

Subject: [Cz-L] Nineteen Bukoviners Involved in the Yiddish Theatre

Was there a building before WWII in which Yiddish productions were
performed? If so, has anyone photos of such a building? If so, please send
me a jpeg of the building with any pertient information about it.

Now that I have finished transliterating from Yiddish to English the name
lists for all six volumes, I can tell you that there are nineteen Bukoviners

listed. Most all are listed as being born in Czernowitz; one is from Babin,
another from Sadagora, and yet another from Cheremash (?).

I have had two gracious list members contact me with offers to volunteer to
translate the short bios of these nineteen native Bukoviners who were once
involved in some way with the Yiddish theatre, so that I may create a small
online exhibition telling you of their lives, e.g. about their parents; if,
when or where they immigrated to, what kind of education they had, where
they worked and for whom they worked for and in what plays they acted in
within the Yiddish theatre, etc.

Rather than place too much of a burden on my two volunteers, and also so
that I may present to you these nineteen biographies as soon as possible, I
am again putting out a call for volunteers who are fluent in Yiddish and who

can translate (albeit imperfectly) into English.

Here are the names of the nineteen native Cz'ers who were involved in some
way with the Yiddish theatre. There were no doubt more, but these are all
the ones listed in Zylbercweig's "Lexicon of the Yiddiish Theatre". If you
are familiar with any of those listed below, i.e. knew them or their
families, please let me know. Forgive me for any spelling errors you might
find in these names:

Doyber, Zecharya-Avraham (from Cheremash?)
Drucker, Leib
Fersht, Shimshon
Furman, Ari
Furman, Avraham
Goldberg, Roza
Goldenberg, Shifra
Hart, Zigmund
Hollender (Hollander), Chana (Annie) (from Babin)
Horovits-Zilberman, Edith
Ringler, Janet
Rozenberg, Tuviya-Gedalyahu
Schechter, Leon
Sherf, Iza
Stein, Adolf
Thal, Sidi
Weissberg, Rachel (from Sadagora; killed in the Holocaust)
Zilberbush, Sam
Zilberman, Ela
