To all Ellenbogens past and present -=0D
My grandparents were Mosche and Klara Ellenbogen; My grandfather worked a=
t
the Roxy cinema on the Landhausgasse. His father was Mendel Ellenbogen, =
a
butcher. Mendel had numerous brothers and sisters, some of whom died
induring the first world war serving in the emperor's army. My grandparen=
ts
were deported, firstly to the Ghetto and then to Bershad, Trnasnistria. T=
hey
then illegally immigrated to Palestine on the Rafiach. Captured by the
British and held at the Atlit camp, where my father was born. =0D
As far as I have researched, I have tackled many other Ellenbogens, but t=
hus
far have failed to clearly establish a direct relationship (even though I
believe there must be some...). =0D
Since my father changed his name to Alon, in order to make it more Hebrew=
-
and Israeli-like, I was under the impression that my grandfather's family
name would disappear after he had passed away. I therefore re-added
Ellenbogen to my family name soon after my grandfather died.=0D
