Dear Ruth, Charles, Yosef, Hardy and all Czernowitzer...
I still want to reassure you. "Murka" - it is very very old song, she will
soon turn 90 years old. It has been redone many times in different versions.
Version with Rabinowitz, too, probably about 80 years. This song sung, and
apparently will be singing for many years, all anyone, including the Jewish
"Turetsky Choir".
This song is not anti-Semitic overtones - neither the original nor the
Ukrainian alteration. Of course, anything can be used for anti-Semitic
allusions, but in this case it did not happen. It's not even a satire
against Yulia Tymoshenko, it's just humor with allusions to "beautiful and
courageous".The current Ukrainian oligarch Rabinovitch is also irrelevant to
this video - his picture is not shown here once.
In the end, the author of the Ukrainian version - a Jewish musician from
Chernovtsy named Emil Krupnik.
I'm not a fan of his work, but this musical treatment I liked.
In general, there is no reason to worry - this is not the case.
Best wishes,
Galina.
