Dear Jordan,
This is the most comprehensive study on the subject I have met.
  Thank you Jordan for your work.
    Compared to going to Czernowitz , travelling to Outer Mongolia
 seems a childs play.

   Here are a few humble observations to your Travelogue .

   The distance LA to Kiev is 10.000 km.
    If you take the polar route you can knock off 500.
     There is no way to reduce this distance unless you dig a tunnel..
        Net flying time abt 14 hrs.
        With connections it may come to your estimated time.

Comment :
  The Antonov 24 was replaced by a Swedish SAAB time ago.
    Modern and reliable. But rumors are that the air service was suspended.
     So type of airplane is irrelevant.
       After 30 or more hours underway waiting another 2 hours for the
      terminal key is not so critical.
         Be happy, you are in Czernowitz now.
