Dear Shula,
Thank you for this touching essay. I am a second-generation Czernowitzer,
not a third-generation one. Nevertheless I share your same concerns and
questions about who we are, from what narrative we come from and how to make
sense of some of our elders' teachings. Some of my questions were answered
while visiting Czernowitz (not Chernivtsi for me ) in 2002. Looking at the
buildings downtown, at the theater, at the university , I understood some of
my mothers's attitudes which did not make sense to me before. And now, with
this treasure that we have found in the Cz-L I do not let a day go by
without some learning about our roots.
