Hello to all members
I would like to tell in short an extraordinary emotional event I
experienced recently, thanks to our blog. I had a school friend in
Czernowitz of the same age; we studied together on the same class in
L. 3, called in earlier time Das Juedische Gymnasium, which we still
used. He lived in the Franzosgasse and he had to cross the
Balschgasse, where I lived, on his way to the school, and thus we
often went together, also to defend ourselves against the attacks of
the children from the German Orphanage who also crossed the
Balschgasse in their way to their school in the Althgasse. I short, we
were intimate friends. After my emigration to Palestine in April 1940
and the events in Europe I lost track of him, and often thought where
could he be. It seems that he had the same thoughts, as we shall see
from the development of the story. Last week I answered on the blog a
question about procuring a Czernowitz Birth Certificate from Ukraine,
and the next day I received mail from a recent member if I am his
father’s old friend, who lived in the Balschgasse and studied with him
in the L. 3. I confirmed it and asked whether his father still lives
and when I received his answer with phone number in New York, I could
not wait until my Israel time concurred with an appropriate time in NY
to call him. Without telling hi, my name, I just asked him if he knows
who is calling, he said my name. I cannot describe the joy we
experienced, but you can imagine it. As it happens I will be in NY for
one day in April and we shall meet and embrace one each other after 71
years!

This story demonstrates the importance of our organization, but at the
same time raised the question why are we not organizing occasionally
some meetings of members, living in the same city or near
surroundings. Exchanges of memories could potentially result in
emotional experiences as I had.
