The autonomous region of today's Transnistria, (as was rightly pointed out, a sliver of territory around Tiraspol) is a typical Russian manipulation. It is true that a large part of the population are ethnic Russians (not Ukrainians), and they resented the fact that Moldova switched to latin from cyrillic script. But, this whole secession, would not have been possible, without the continuous presence of a Russian army (could be a regiment). The same procedure they used In Abhazia (taken from Georgia).
