I fully agree with Jerr/Josef Eshet.
This drawing very clearly portrays the suffering and despair of
our people deported and tortured to death in Transnistria.
This 36 year old man looks as if he was 60.
Jerome is on vacation now and will be away for a month.
When he comes back, please Jerry, ask him to include this drawing
in the section on the holocaust in Czernowitz.
The Romanian inscription should be translated to:
Landmann, an intelectual from Czernowitz.
36 years old, died of hunger and cold on the road
between Moghilev and Scazinetz.
January 4th,1942.
The signature of the artist is not easily legible, is it B Schachter?
I believe that my father had a friend by the name of Landmann.
We certainly had neighbors by the name of Landmann when we lived on
the Blumengasse from the summer of 1940 till Oct. 1941
The Landmann portrayed, was probably born about 1906, my father was born
on Jan.5th 1907, so it stands to reason that they knew each other.
If any of the members of the list, who had relatives by the name
of Landmann can identify the subject of the drawing, please do so.
