Mimi, and all,
I greatly enjoy reading all of all of your memories about Czernowitz, as
well as your experiences in visiting more recently. It makes my memories of
visiting there, and my imaginings of my ancestors' lives there, much more
vivid.
I grew up in the Bronx, and enjoy visiting there, although it has also
drastically changed, and although my memories of my childhood don't have the
same poignancy as many of your wartime memories.
On the other hand, I know people, with whom I grew up, who would never want
to set foot in the Bronx again.
There is no right answer as to whether one can, or should, go "home" again,
each of us has to decide what is right for us.
I do agree with you, Mimi, that the Volksgarden is beautiful, despite my
having gone to high school in walking distance of New York's Central Park!
