The Slowackygasse was started at the beginning of the 20th century,
continued after WW1 by the Romanian as a dead-end-street that started in
Eugenstrasse and ended at the gates of a sweets factory (which is there till
today) Romanian name - Filipescu. In the 1930ies they started a street that
connected the Slowacky with the Siebenbuergerstrasse. At the beginning they
didn't give this street a name . The Jews who were the majority gave it the
unofficial name of verlaengerte Slowacky. The municipality who couldn't
decide gave the 3 first houses on the south side of the street first the
address Stefan cel Mare (Siebenbuerger) number 42a, 42b, and 42c than they
changed them to Filipescu 42a,..b,..c. At the end this segment of street was
officially named by the Romanian: Strada Profesorul Illie Luta (pronounced
Lutsa) and the above mentioned houses were numbered : 1; 3; 5. The Russians
did the logical and joined the Illie Luta with the Slowacky and named the
street as Pervamayska which the Ukrainians changed to Pershatrvneva. Just to
give you an idea. My Father's parents and sisters lived in this neighbohood.
