To the Rumanians we were aliens.
We did not speak their language , despised their habits and made
them feel inferior. We fraternized with the hated Soviets.
When the war came Antonescu did not give us the protection
he gave to rumanian jews, as a reprisal.
They were not deported( in general).
But strange enough , under the Soviets we became rumanians
and thus entitled to repatriation to a homeland we never adopted.
So we returned to a country of the people who wanted us out of their
system.
But Rumania had no say in these days.
It was an interim stay but the only way out of the USSR.
And so , another page in the history of the absurd was written.
