Once upon the time, when we at last could leave Czernowitz in 1945, the time
with open frontiers were limitated, than closed for a year, for a short
month opened in 1946 and 1947. we lived for 7 years in the oilfields, near
Ploiesti, and when we got an appartment in the town, Ploiesti, I was very
happy. Nearby, in the next house lived also a jwish family, "Regatler" so
called by Bukowiners..One day she came over to me, we spoke about Bukowina
and I never will forget, what she said: "You, Bukowiners, you are ever proud
of your austrian culture, and what, I can recite the poems of Eminescu,
Cosbuc, Slavici, and not Goethe and Schiller, for that reason you are with
the nose up, the roumanian culture is equally to the german"...I answered,
that all the cultures are good, some of them are younger, some elder..I also
love Eminescu, but it is a bit difference...
