Thanks Merle! - being a compulsive editor I tweaked it some more - and
managed to make it shorter by a few more words - the last sentence could
still use work. I like Gabrielle's ending, also MImi's - but thought I'd try
out this last sentence to see how it reads -

Who during the fascist regime of Marshal Ion Antonescu were marked for
genocide and stripped of
their citizenship, civil rights, professional standing and property.

Between 1941 and 1942, over 30,000 were deported to concentration camps in
Transnistria. Of these about 15,000 were murdered or died of hunger,
exposure and
disease.

May future generations remember this dark era so that it should never happen
again.
