It was my opinion that the new plate, to substitute the existing one
will be on the same subject : the jewish Ghetto 1941 of Czernowitz.
Does somebody know otherwise ?

Thanks Merle - if anyone wants to add to it they are welcome - Hardy
is right, I didn't mention the ghetto, I couldn't find how to fit it
in-- - it is part of the larger picture which was really the intended
genocide and the total disempowerment of the entire Jewish population.
One wonders what was the rational of transferring 50,000 people to a
small area of the city for only nine weeks, except as a way station
for the ultimate deportation - but 16,000 lucky ones got to go back to
their homes. So it's just like all our stories (e.g.yes I was born in
Romania/but my language is German/but it is now Ukraine, but but etc
etc) - so the challenge is how it articulate the most meaningful
kernels of the story so that it can be translated into three or four
language - so that a passer by could stop to read and feel somehow
connected to these words/ these events, even if they're not Jewish or
originate from this part of the world.
The words "genocide and stripped of their citizenship, civil rights,
professional standing and property." are words that we can read about
in our contemporary newspapers in relation to Bosnia/Rwanda ...so it
can happen again anywhere...and people need to think about how to
avoid ethnic division to descend into hatred and dehumanization etc -
to me that is the value of a memorial,
thanks all
Sylvia
