Thanks for the title of the book "Idee Europa"
If I remember you paid me a visit here in Haifa, 25 years ago. someone from
Jerusalem gave you my adress, and we.my late husband and I gave you many
informations about the old Czernowitz, than we went to an other family
together, to Shayowitz.to get some informations about the Jewish part of
Czernowitz, Do you remember????

You promised to write us, I never got news from you....until I read your
massages to the list...
Don't worry, I never forget, but I excuse you...

Otto von Habsburg considered old Czernowitz as a model for a new
Europe. His book "Idee Europa" (Muenchen: Herold Druck, 1976)
included a chapter entitled "Czernowitz, oder Was ist Toleranz?" in
which he wrote (perhaps a little bit idealistically): "In Czernowitz
gab es die Synthese zwischen nationalem Verständnis und einer höheren,
man möchte sagen europäischen Einstellung. Hier wurde in einem
gemischtnationalen Raum bewiesen, daß die Völker im Geiste einer
gemeinsamen Kultur Gewaltiges leisten können, daß es möglich ist,
verschiedene Sprach- und Glaubensgemeinschaften friedlich und im
Dienste an eine große, gemeinsame Idee zusammenzuführen".
