I don't know if there were in the whole Austrian empire more loyal subjects
than the Jews and among the more ardent - the Jews of Bukowina. My late
father was very proud of the fact that he shared his birthday with the
Kaiser Franz Joseph (August-18). This day that was officially celebrated
throughout the empire. Till his last years old family members, and friends
used to congratulate him saying: "Dein Geburtstag werde ich nie vergessen
weil auch der Kaiser am selben tag Geburtstag hatte" meaning "Your birthday
I'll never forget because the Kaiser had his birthday on the same day".

PS They are still celebrating this day in Austria. Especially in Bad Ischl
