Sometimes I imagine that I hear voices I never heard, inflecting and
mingling within my own voice. I wonder if my daughter will feel their
reverberations. Because my mother spoke to me of her Czernowitzer
father often and glowingly, sometimes, tearfully, when I was a child, I
believe I came away with a (long subconscious) predisposition to
emulate this gentle, fair bearded grandfather who died before I was
born. My mother spoke in different but comparably glowing terms
-admiration and affection tinged with an evolving sadness and sense of
poignance - when discussing her friend Paul Ancel / Celan. As a child I
wanted to be a poet too, not just gentle and fair.

Legends linger, and not just in ceremonial markings of / about (the
Exodus or) the Holocaust.

My grandfather was said to have had a very gentle mother, who died
young, whom he loved very much.

Subject: [Cz-L] Holocaust Day.

There are about 200,000 survivors left in Israel.
We die out at the rate of 13,000 each year.
Out of a drying up resevoir.
In 16 years no one will be left.
Left will be graves , memorials , books and museums.
To tell a story sad and hard to believe.
A time will come nobody will .
           It will become a legend.
             Sooner than you think.
