Dear All,

Having recently returned from Czernowitz, I would like to report on the
current progress of the restoration work at the cemetery.
Members of CJCRO, please excuse me for repeating what I already wrote you.

Currently, of the total area of the cemetery, which measures 11.6 hectares,
there remain less than 2 hectares, which still have not been cleared at all.
The plans of CJCRO are to have these cleared this spring.

Unfortunately, the cemetery administration sprayed with herbicides, only
a small part of the cleared areas. These sprayed areas are clear of all
perennial vegetation, which proves that the herbicides are effective.
In the areas cleared in 2009, which were not sprayed, new growth sprouted
from the roots and stumps of the cut trees. This new growth, while very tall
in certain areas, consists of thin branches of green wood, which are easily
cut.

Sasha Wolloch and I, met and had discussions with the acting mayor,
the city's director of public works, the cemetery administrator and of
course with Dr. Bursuk. In these talks and discussions we were given
promises of greater cooperation on the part of the city, meaning - timely
spraying with herbicides and the maintenance of clear paths.
With Dr. Bursuk we agreed on a timetable for work to be done.

We also met with representatives of SVIT Ukraine and ASF Germany, both of
which will this summer, again hold work-camps at the cemetery.

In the next few days, if Jerome agrees, I will post on the Ehpes website, a
schematic map of the cemetery, showing the currently cleared areas and
photographs illustrating the current conditions.

I urge all of you, who have as yet not joined CJCRO, please do so and tell
your Czernowitz relatives and acquaintances to do the same.

Mimi

To ensure that the work at the cemetery is done well and without delays, we
have hired a supervisor.
We have also had talks with the director of public works and the acting
mayor (the mayor himself,
was recently deposed), in which these public officials promised that they
would make sure.
that the city administration, would keep the paths mown and the cleared
areas sprayed with herbicides.
