Dear Edgar,
Sorry for the delay in reply.
What you are doing now, was done for years by many of our
ancestors during their migration from Galicia to Bukowina.
My grandma Sali Thau is a good example of this: she was born in
1884 in Zablotow (she didn't know personally Manès
Sperber), gave birth in Sereth in 1910, she then gave birth again
in
Czernowitz in 1913.
Thank you Edgar for the interesting pictures.
Many thanks to Dr. Simon Geissbühler for his paper on: Zablotow:
Manès Sperber’s East Galician Shtetl, the
Holocaust and a Forgotten Cemetery
I think her parents were buried at Zablotow cemetery, so it was
very
interesting to look at your pictures of this place.

>> Czernowitzers...
Most of our ancestors came initially from Galicia, mine from Rohatyn. On
10.05.11 our fellow member Marc Goldberger wrote to me:
"Thank you very mutch for the wonderful opportunity we get to see all
those rare places thank to your traveling. I hope that Zablotow is on
your itinerary because my grandma was born there."
Well, Marc, your mail came just in time, a few hours later and I would
have passed on 11.05.11 Zablotow without stop-over. It would have been a
pity, as Zabolotow is the birth place of Manès Sperber too; who knows,
at the end of the day your grandmother knew him personally?! Read the
full story at:
Previous cities on my itinerary in Galicia were Yaremche, Delatyn,
Ivano-Frankivsk and Lemberg. And, Jerome, I'm going to post upon my
return by the end of the month much more cemetery pictures from Galicia.
Warmest wishes from sunny Czernowitz!
