Dear Edgar,

Thank you so much for the pictures and the explanation.
My grandfather and most of my Kastner family came
from Radautz, so this really means a great deal to me.

Very best regards and again - many thanks.

Merle

Subject: [Cz-L] Good News from Radautz and Colacu!

Czernowitzers...

Continuing my motorcycle trip through Galicia and Bukovina, I'm pleased to
present to you the partially renovated Jewish Temple of Radautz:

http://hauster.blogspot.com/

It took decades, but now the renovation of the frontage is nearly done, the
interior refurbishment will follow soon, and then (?) a decision will be
taken concerning the future utilization for the Temple. The majority of the
funds came from the Federation of the Romanian Jewish Communities (BTW,
Bruce, I crosschecked and corrected the initial information.), a substantial
part from the Municipality of Radauti, supplemented by private donors.

Everyone from our group knows Traian Popovici, some of you know, that he was
buried in Colacu, but did you know, that

- the school of Colacu bears the name "Traian Popovici",
- in front of the school there is a Traian Popovici monument,
- inside of the school there is a Traian Popovici Museum,
- the Traian Popovici Association organized two symposiums.

All that became possible by the outstanding engagement of Florentin Lehaci,
who - together with other 25 founding members - established the Traian
Popovici Association for Education, Democracy and Tolerance.

The name of the association says it all, these brave persons had - and still
have - to overcome a lot of prejudices in this rural area. I had a detailed
discussion with Florentin and he will be pleased, to receive any member of
our group in Colacu. I'm highly recommending to you, to visit Colacu and get
preliminary in touch with
