Re German language
I was born in Romania, only a few years after Czernowitz became
Romania. We know German, because we spoke German and Yiddish with our
parents, - (my mother never learned Romanian)- and with our friends. I
went to Safa Ivriah school, but among us pupils, we spoke Yiddish or
German, then in the L3 Gymnasium we also spoke these 2  languages, not
Romanian. I had practically 2 mother tongs. I studied German
orthography, grammar and literature at a private teacher, just as I
learned Chumash, Rashi and Talmud. Therefore, I forgot Romanian, but
can still speak and write quite a correct German.
I left for Palestine April 1940 and had no occasion nor great desire
to speak Romanian.
