[Cz-L] From Berlin

Dear friends,
I was born in Bucharest after the war. At home, we spoke only German,
i.e. my father spoke a very cultured Austrian-German, my mother, the
typical Czernowitzer-Deutsch. Outside, of course, we spoke Romanian, I
had no problems with that, my parents had a funny accents which
I used to laugh at, not knowing that it is so difficult to learn a
proper accent later in life. This I discovered when we emigrated to
England, where
I managed the language but not the accent. French and Spanish were
easier, since closer to Romanian.
As to the Musikverein: it was much more beautiful in the old shape in my
opinion. The symetry and harmony are now partially gone, since
they closed the side-windows. The new colour is indeed better to look
at, but the building seems and probably is, much smaller, the
side-buildings have gone. Also, they have taken away the commemorating
plate for Sidi Tal, a very Jewish actress and singer, which was affixed
there for many years.
