Regards from Czernowitz.

Fittingly I fininshed reading Ghosts of Home on the plan between Munich and
Lviv.

The driver Zoya sent was extremely nice and professional.

My wife Shelly and I arrived here around 5 pm after the long, bunpy ride
from Lviv.

The Lviv airport appears to be a throw back to the communist era and a bit
anxiety provoking.

Along the way I appreciated where the towns some of my ancestors came to
Czernowitz from - Horodenko and Brezany--are located.

The location of towns such as Stanislaw and Kolomya now makes sense.

On our own, we already saw numerous sites pertaining to my parents,
grandparents, and great grandparents after making our first stop the
Memorial Paque to the Jewish Ghetto.

We ate Pirogies (potato and cabbage), cabbage and onions, potatoes and
oninons, mushrooms in sour cream, farmer cheese cake, blintzes, a piece of
Schwartzwald cake, beer, coffee, and tea for under $15 in a pizzeria across
form City Hall and the pastry shop next to Cafe Vienna.

First stop tomorrow morning with Zoya--the cemetary.

Shelly (whose parents come from the surroundings of Lviv--Rudniki and
Dubienko) and I could easily see ourselves having lived here...I am not so
sure how others would feel about our presence. Nonetheless every young
person we met was extremely polite and tried to speak English.

I must also share the thoughts of experiences not experienced but sensed
through my parents as we travelled to and emtered the city---the Train
Station, the Dneister, the Prutt --the Gehtto and Bershad.
