What a beautiful city........
With Zoya's guidance, generosity, and support, as well as her some ed explanations and history lessons, today's accomplishments included:
Touring the "ghetto" and the old synagogue including the machine shop where my mother lived on the floor before being sent to Bershad.
Finding and arranging to clean and repair three graves
Viewing filming the inside of the sanctuary in the cemetery
Visiting Sadogora and walking inside the synagogue under repair.
Speaking with a charming elderly woman who hid Jews in her basement during WWII in the town of Herson.
Eating favorite carbohydrate rich Bucovina food for lunch
Walking along the Ring Platz and the Dora Hof.
Walking up Post Gasse to the Philharmonia and then to see where my mother was raised in her early years across from the teacher's seminary.
Visiting the inside of the Jewish Orphanage where my grandmother was the director and where my father lived with her. We toured inside and met with the director of what is now a music seminary for adolescents wanting to become music teachers.
Saw the Residence-University
Visited the site of the old Temple.
Saw the Jewish Community center and the Theater Platz.
Visited Austra Platz and L3.
...and ended with a long stroll, dinner, poppy seed cake and coffee n the Herren Gasse.
Literally and allegorically, I have been viewing Czernowitz, as well as the ride through Galicia through cracked glass.

Subject: [Cz-L]Motorcycle Trip through Galicia and Bukowina
Czernowitzers...
Yesterday, arriving in Mülheim an der Ruhr, I concluded my motorcycle trip through Galicia and Bukovina. 4,937 km in more than five weeks, with many experiences, conversations, meetings. As usual, the motorcycle journey diaries are available at
and I have updated the blog by posting articles for:

It was a thrilling and adventurous journey, but overshadowed by the death of my friend

from Radautz. Now, the analysis phase for the research results will follow and please "stay (patiently) tuned" for more news from Czernowitz, Bukovina and Galicia!
Warmest wishes to all of you and thank you very much for your encouragement and your comments!
