Dear Czernowitzers,
I am rereading one of my favorite Bukovina authors, Leo Katz of
Sereth, and wanted to recommend him to you both because I think you as
Bukoviners will enjoy his satirical depictions of multi-kulti
Habsburg-era life in small-town Sereth and because I think he is
under-recognized. My favorite book is "Brennende Dörfer" which
revolves around the peasant uprising of 1907. I believe it was
translated to English as well. A new German-language edition came out
a few years back.
Especially those of you with ancestors from Sereth / Siret - pick up a
copy for an entertaining read! There are great scenes set entirely in
the shvitz.
Herzliche Grüße,
Julie
