This is strictly my personal opinion without any implication on any other
person. There were few (among them my parents and I) who had to escape the
Soviet regime, but the vast majority of the Bukowinian Jews left to Romania
with the first opportunity they got . I was a bit surprised to find out
lately that there was a certain number who preferred to stay behind with the
Soviets. Then most of us preferred to move on, and left even Romania. Maybe
the cause was the regime but from what I understood it was the hostile
atmosphere that surrounded them. So at least for me this event is not
surprising - on the contrary - it's only to be expected. Of course on the
personal basis there are wonderful people like Joana Rostos, and others, but
regretfully, the majority is hostile.
