Subject: [Cz-L] Ghetto Monument in Czernowitz

Dear All,

I have received an Email message from Zoya Danilovich, my friend and
guide-translator in Chernivtsi in which she wrote me about the Ghetto
monument recently unveiled on the Turkish square.
She writes that this is definitely a temporary monument and that a
permanent
memorial will replace this temporary one, in the same location.
The permanent memorial will be both to those forced to be in the ghetto
and
to those who were deported to Transnistria.
Zoya writes that the monument is planned to be a large one and that the
project has been approved. She further suggested to Dr. Bursuk and he
agreed
that members of our list write suggestions for the inscription.

I therefore suggest that members of the list write their suggested
inscription to the whole Cz.-List and after some discussion, we send
these
suggestions to Dr. Bursuk and Zoya who could translate from English to
Ukrainian. Please also consider whether the inscription should be in
addition to Ukrainian and English, also in Hebrew or Yiddish.
Of course, the more languages the inscription is in, the shorter it will
have to be.

Please send your suggestions under the heading:
"suggested inscription for memorial".

Mimi
