There are many reasons....but having done a lot of reading on the subject
one reason stands out in my mind. Some politicians certainly wanted
independence,but most wanted self-rule within the Imperial
structure,something like todays USA. The man who destroyed that was Woodrow
Wilson who insisted that he knew better what was good for everybody and they
all had to go their separate ways. The result of his ideas is what
followed!!! Cornel
