For Fanny Cooper:
Yiddish has its roots in Germany of the 15th century. It is mittel-
hochdeutsch (Middle High German). The Jews, through their migration enriched
it with Russian, Polish, Ukrainian and Hebrew.Today, in many parts of
Germany including Berlin Yiddish is still being used.Although the user is
not aware that the expressions used are Yiddish.
With best wishes from another Czernowitzer,
Dr.Martin Ungar, Berlin
