[Cz-L] another memory

Do you all remember the obnoxious "Torschluss"?
Whenever we arrived home after 10 o'clock in the evening we found the main gate to our house locked. We had to wake the "Hausmeister" who arrived in his night-gatjkes with a key, he opened the gate for us and we had to give him 2 lei...
This seems such a negligible sum to pay to a man whom we've taken out of his bed and sleep, but you'd be surprised how these 2 lei were often a problem.
The discussion between my parents went:
My mother: have you got rtwo lei with you?
My father: No, I haven't and he never has any change and this usually costs us...
My mother: Why don't you know how it will be and have the two lei prepared? This happens again and again!
My father: It's just because when you start talking to Esther you loose sense of time, and we could have been here earlier and we woulnd't worry about two lei...

This discussion came up again and again with slight variations. In the end I had to give up two lei of my own, out of my precious pocket money. We walked up the stairs to our home me grumbling all the time:
I want my money back to-morrow, two lei buys me one piece of ice chocolate at Mrs. Luttinger's kiosk!

They always forgot to return my money and i forgot to ask for it back.Typical generosity of Czernowitz children!
